Oh Kim! I just love this. I am recognizing myself in some of the flaky correspondence; and aim to do better about directness and follow through.

I love reading your words about horses and silence and just being. As my journey with horses continues, I look forward to more time in silence with them ❤️

I laughed because I think we all saw a little of ourselves somewhere in this one. Life has a way of making even the best intentions wander off into the weeds.

I'm just glad you stuck around long enough to find your way back here. ❤️ I hope there are lots of quiet hours with horses ahead of you. They never seem to mind where we've been. Thank you for reading my words!

Grateful the algorithm showed me this post. You're a beautiful writer. So much of this is relatable as we do similar things here in Maryland, but sadly your funny mention of using AI to tactfully respond to "volunteer" inquiries really hit home the most! I reached out when you first mentioned starting books in the barn and told you I was inspired and going to copy. Escaping goats, stuck tractors chaotic summer campers and more have distracted me, but I have been collecting books that I plan on offering to parents interested in bringing their children this fall. Thank you so much for all you share! Hoping your weather is cooler than ours and you're able to enjoy peace filled moments in the barn.

This made me smile. Thank you! I'm so glad the algorithm did one good thing for both of us this week. I laughed when I wrote that AI line because I knew there were at least a handful of other horse program managers who would immediately say, OH YES. 😂

I do remember you mentioning Books at the Barn, and I hope you absolutely steal the idea. It's become one of my favorite hours of the month. Escaping goats, stuck tractors, and chaotic campers sound like the most honest explanation possible for why life sometimes outruns our best intentions. The books will still be there when the dust settles.

I hope you'll let me know when you launch yours this fall. I bet all those parents are going to need that quiet hour just as much as the kids. My next plan is to host an adult camp because we truly had more adults say they wanted to attend camp this summer than we had kids sign up. I'm wishing you cooler weather, fewer goat escapes, and just enough peace to remember why we have farms. ❤️ I'm so glad you're here with me.

Sigh……these musings really hit me. It’s been almost a year since my kindred heart horse of 27 years left this earth but I still go to that quiet barn where we spent so many wonderful years together and just sit and breathe. It sit in the back pasture, under her apple tree and I feel her spirit supporting me onwards thru life’s challenges. She calms my soul and I am ever grateful…..

I think that's one of the greatest gifts horses leave us. They teach us that presence doesn't simply disappear because a body does.

I love that you still go and sit beneath her apple tree. It sounds like the two of you are still keeping your appointments together, just in a different way. Thank you for sharing this with me. I have a feeling she'd be pleased to know she's still helping you breathe.

And thank you, not just for reading this piece, but for reading my words week after week and always cheering me on. This more to me than I can ever properly put into words. I'm right there with you, sitting underneath the trees and talking to our spirits.
